Assessing artificial intelligence’s (AI’s) clinical reasoning

4th December 2023

This month saw the completion of a new clinical reasoning project involving Artificial intelligence (AI). Under the supervision of the SCRIPT research team, two MPharm students from the University of Birmingham compared ChatGTP 3.5 clinical reasoning with year 4 pharmacy students. The study involved both students and AI to think aloud their thoughts when presented with a written case scenario, so the research could assess their decision-making. Overall, findings suggest that AI equalled the clinical reasoning abilities of the students. This research will be taken further for future AI projects.
